Renewable Energy Contractors - Are You MCS Accredited ?

Dear member,

Construction IOM is committed to demonstrating expertise and raising standards across the construction sector. With the growing demand for renewable energy installations, the need for a unified industry standard has become increasingly urgent. Recent discussions with the Isle of Man Government have highlighted issues and concerns about delivering and maintaining high standards for renewable installations across the Island.

As a result of these discussions, and after a two-year lead-in period, CIOM has made an important decision. Effective 1st October 2024, all companies wishing to be included in the Renewable Energy Contractors accredited category will be required to be certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

What does this mean for you?

  • If your company is MCS accredited, you will remain in the CIOM renewables category.
  • If your company is not MCS accredited, you will be removed from the category from 1st October 2024.
  • If your company is in the Renewables Category and you have not provided proof of your MCS accreditation, you will be removed from 1st October 2024 unless you provide proof of your MCS accreditation on or before this date.
  • If your company has completed all the pre-requisites for MCS accreditation, applied for your assessment date and await confirmation of that date, please provide evidence of this to CIOM to remain in the renewables category.
  • If your company has not completed training which is required for MCS accreditation, this training is available on Island and can be accessed via www.gtech.co.uk, you can use this training as part of your MCS accreditation process.
  • If your company has not completed all the pre-requisites for MCS accreditation, you can find out more on how to become MCS accredited via - Becoming certified - MCS (mcscertified.com)

Please note your company is required to continue to provide evidence of employing a craftsperson certified under the CIOM Certificate Scheme or DfE Craftcard Scheme in one of the following categories:

  • Plumbing / Heating Engineer#
  • Electrician

For those that are MCS accredited, your ongoing MCS renewal assessments will need to be supplied to Construction Isle of Man at each next membership renewal.
